Joint Systems Manufacturing Center

In 2004, the local community formed Task Force Lima to work with General Dynamics, operator of the GOCO Lima Army Tank Plant which was rumored to be on the list for the pending BRAC process. In an aggressive campaign, the BRAC Commission was convinced that the Lima Army Tank Plant was too vital to national security to be closed. As part of the process, the Army approved the name change to the Joint Systems Manufacturing Center to reflect the “jointness” of the facility in working for the US Army, the US Marine Corp and the US Navy. From 2005 until the present, employment at the plant has grown from 400 employees to over 1100. In 2008, the new Michael G. Oxley Administration and Technology Center opened replacing a pre world war 2 structure. The new center will increase the engineering, purchasing and administrative capacity at the site. The JSMC is a center of innovation for the use of advanced materials and for advanced manufacturing techniques.
