Amazon is Coming to Lima: A Major Investment in Allen County

We’re thrilled to share exciting news that underscores the strength and momentum of our regional economy: Amazon is investing in a new delivery station right here in Shawnee Township. This announcement represents a significant milestone for Allen County and reflects the collaborative work happening across our community to attract world-class employers.

A Strategic Investment in Our Community

The new Amazon delivery station will be located on Jay Begg Parkway in Shawnee Township’s Gateway Shawnee Industrial Park. Construction has already begun, and while launch plans are still in the early stages, the impact on our community is already clear.

“Amazon’s investment underscores the strong confidence companies have in the Lima and Allen County region,” said Cindy Leis, President and CEO of the Allen Economic Development Group. “This project not only brings new jobs and investment but also enhances our growing logistics and distribution network. We’re proud to welcome a household name like Amazon to our community and add them to the diverse portfolio of businesses that call Lima, Ohio, home.”

Lima: The Right Fit for Growth

This isn’t just about Amazon choosing a location. It’s about Allen County demonstrating exactly what makes our region an ideal place for businesses to grow and thrive.

Kyle DeGiulio, Senior Manager of Economic Development for Amazon, recognized this when he said: “The strategic location and strong local workforce make Lima an ideal fit for our operations. We’re grateful for the collaborative partnership with Allen Economic Development Group, the Port Authority of Allen County, and the local leadership at the city, township, and county, and look forward to becoming an integral part of the Lima community.”

At AEDG, we’ve worked alongside our partners at the Port Authority of Allen County, city and township leaders, and county officials to create an environment where businesses of all sizes can succeed. This announcement is a testament to that collaborative approach and the incredible assets our region offers:

  • Strategic location with excellent transportation infrastructure
  • Strong local workforce ready to support growing operations
  • Growing logistics network that positions us as a regional hub

What This Means for Allen County

Amazon’s new delivery station will power the last mile of its fulfillment process, enabling fast delivery directly to customers’ doorsteps. But the benefits extend far beyond convenience:

Job Creation: The facility will create new full- and part-time employment opportunities for local residents. Amazon’s average base wage for hourly employees nationwide exceeds $22 per hour, with total compensation averaging more than $29 per hour when including benefits like healthcare from day one.

Economic Impact: This investment adds to Amazon’s remarkable footprint in Ohio: 36,500 jobs created and more than $49 billion invested across the state since 2010.

Community Benefits: As Allen County Commissioner Beth Seibert noted, “Having a physical delivery station here in Allen County will directly benefit local delivery operations while serving the many households and businesses that rely on Amazon.”

Regional Growth: Mayor Sharetta Smith emphasized that this development demonstrates that “well-known global brands see real value in growing right here in our community.”

A Win Built on Partnership

This announcement wouldn’t have been possible without strong collaboration between AEDG, the Port Authority of Allen County, Shawnee Township, city leadership, and county officials. It’s this kind of teamwork that makes Allen County an attractive destination for major employers.

As the Shawnee Township Board of Trustees shared, they’re “excited to welcome Amazon to our community and look forward to the continued growth of Gateway Shawnee Industrial Park.”

Looking Ahead

Amazon’s decision to invest in Lima is more than just another economic development win. It’s a validation of our strategic vision for the region. It demonstrates that when we work together and leverage our strengths, we can compete for and win projects with global leaders.

This is the kind of momentum we’ve been building, and it’s just the beginning. At AEDG, we remain committed to attracting diverse industries, supporting local businesses, and creating opportunities that benefit all residents of Allen County.

We’re proud to have played a key role in bringing this project to our community, and we’re excited to see Amazon become an integral part of the Lima region.
